The Ten Directorates
The Republic's organisational remit is divided across ten Directorates (Praetoriae). Eight are vertical — each owns a Branch and the operational domain that Branch serves. Two are horizontal — they serve all other Directorates across the whole organisation. Each is led by a Praetor, appointed by the First Consul.
Vertical Directorates (8)
Each vertical Directorate owns one Branch. Day-to-day operations are run by a Praefectus (Branch Commander). The Branch is the organised set of members who share the primary in-game specialisation served by the Directorate.
Praetoria Bellica
Operations
Owns: Cohors Arma (Combat)
Fighter wings, capital crews, ground marines, boarding. Combat doctrine, fleet command, escalation. Maintains the Extermination Protocol under the First Consul's sanction.
Praetoria Materiae
Industry
Owns: Cohors Industria
Material sovereignty: mining (Fodinae), salvage (Reliquiae), refining (Purificatio), trade (Mercatura), manufacturing (Fabrica). Five Guilds, each led by a Centurio-Magister.
Praetoria Frontis
Frontier
Owns: Cohors Frontis (Exploration)
Long-range scouting, scanning, cartography, jump-point survey. The Explorer is the Republic's first vigil.
Praetoria Operum
Engineering
Owns: Cohors Opera
Construction, base-building, engineering, repair, infrastructure design.
Praetoria Medica
Medical Authority
Owns: Cohors Medicina
Field medicine, hospital ships, evacuation, Sanctioned Augmentation review, Mutation Protocol enforcement. Gatekeeper of the Third Pillar.
Praetoria Subsidii
Logistics
Owns: Cohors Subsidium
Refuelling, rearming, transport, supply lines, quartermaster functions.
Praetoria Vigiliae
Intelligence
Owns: Cohors Vigilia
Threat assessment, Pillar classification, counter-intelligence, Doctrinal Flag triage.
Praetoria Vocis
Communications
Owns: Cohors Vox
Public voice, recruitment copy, media, internal bulletin, General Orders.
Horizontal Directorates (2)
Horizontal Directorates do not own a Branch. They operate across all eight Branches and serve the whole organisation.
Praetoria Civium
Recruitment & Citizenship
Cuts across all Branches
Intake pipeline: Awareness → Consideration → Conversion → Orientation. Runs First Contact, manages the Recruit period, schedules the Oath of Vigil.
Praetoria Fidei
Doctrine & Discipline
Cuts across all Branches
Houses the Holy Office (Sanctum Officium Vigiliae) as Praetoria Doctrinae. Director is the Commissar-General. Doctrine integrity, ceremonial doctrine, discipline staircase.
The First Council
The Consilium Primum (First Council) is the operational governing body of the Republic. It is composed of:
- The First Consul (presiding);
- The ten Directors of the Directorates;
- The Commissar-General (Commissarius Generalis) — voice and full vote on doctrinal matters; limited vote on operational matters.
The Consilium meets in scheduled session, in crisis session, and in ceremonial session. Its decisions are recorded and binding on all Directorates.
